Online Quran Classes in Chicago

Online Quran Classes Through the Chicago Winter

Chicago winters are long. Snow, ice and early dark make an evening drive hard, most of all with small kids in the back seat. A weekly class across town can slip off the plan by January.

With Salam Campus, the class comes to you. Your child sits at the kitchen table with a laptop, tablet or phone. The teacher joins on a live video call. A snow day does not stop the lesson, because nobody has to go out. Each class is private and lasts 30 minutes. Then your child is free for dinner, homework and bed.

You keep the same teacher each week. That teacher learns which letters your child still finds hard. So each class starts right where the last one stopped. Nothing gets lost between lessons.

A Central Time Week Planner

All of Illinois is on Central Time. You choose your class times in Central Time, and they stay fixed each week. Classes run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So the plan below is only a starting point.

Need to move a class? Tell us before it starts, and we move it to another time in the same month.

Here are 4 sample weeks. Mix them in any way that suits your family:

  • Before school, 6:30 am: a short class while the house is quiet. It also suits adults before work. 5 classes a week cost $88 a month.
  • After school, 4:30 pm or 5:00 pm: 2 or 3 days a week. This is our busiest time, so book it early. 3 classes a week cost $54 a month.
  • Evening, 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm: after dinner, for parents and working adults. 2 classes a week cost $40 a month.
  • Weekend, Saturday or Sunday morning: for families with packed weekdays. A weekend class costs the same as a weekday class.

Classes for Chicago Kids

Children can start as young as 4. Most begin with Noorani Qaida. It is a small book that teaches the Arabic letters and their sounds. When the letters are strong, your child moves on to reading the Quran with Tajweed. Tajweed means the rules for saying each sound the right way.

Young children lose focus fast, so each class is short and busy. The teacher goes over the last lesson and adds one small new step. Then the teacher listens to your child read. Praise comes often, and every class ends with a clear goal for next time.

You are welcome to sit in on any class. You get a short note after each lesson and a written report each month. So you always know what was taught and what to practice at home.

Adults and New Muslims in Chicago

You are never too old to learn. Many adults start from the very first letter. Some learned as children but never had a teacher to fix their mistakes. Others are new Muslims who want to recite Al-Fatiha well in their daily prayers. In a private class, nobody else hears you get it wrong. Your teacher goes at your speed.

Adults can learn before the morning commute, at lunch, or after the kids are in bed. You can ask for a male or female teacher. Sisters can study with a female teacher for the whole course, and the price is the same.

New to Islam? Our Prayer Lessons course teaches Wudu and Salah step by step. You can take it next to your reading class, and your teacher splits the class time between the two.

Courses You Can Take

Every course is live and one-on-one. Most students start with one of the courses below. You can see all 9 on our courses page.

Fees in US Dollars

We send one simple bill each month in US dollars. Every class is 30 minutes, live and private. There is no sign-up fee and no contract. You can pay by card, PayPal or bank transfer.

On the 2-class plan, each class works out to $5. On the 5-class plan, it is $4.40. A second or third child pays a lower fee. A weekend class or a female teacher costs the same. You can pause or change your plan with 1 week's notice.

Suburbs and the Rest of Illinois

You do not have to live in the city. Families in the suburbs book the same teachers and the same plans. That includes Naperville, Schaumburg, Bridgeview, Skokie, Aurora, Orland Park and Oak Lawn. It also includes towns further out, like Rockford, Peoria, Champaign and Springfield.

The whole state is on Central Time, so the planner on this page works anywhere in Illinois. Milwaukee is on Central Time too, and so is the corner of Indiana near Chicago, such as Gary and Hammond. Family in Houston? They share your time zone, so cousins can have class at the same hour.

Relatives in most of Michigan, such as Dearborn, are 1 hour ahead of you, on Eastern Time. Moving to another state? Your class can move with you. We simply set the new time in your new time zone.

What Happens in a 30-Minute Class

The student opens the class link on any device. The teacher shows the Qaida or Quran page on screen, so you do not need to buy a book. A class usually goes like this:

  • A quick hello and a short check of last week's work.
  • The student reads, and the teacher fixes each mistake on the spot.
  • The teacher explains one new rule or a few new letters in plain English.
  • The student practices the new part until it sounds right.
  • The teacher sets a small task for home and writes a short note for you.

Practice at Home Between Classes

Daily practice between classes helps the most. It does not need to be long. At the end of each class, the teacher marks the lines to read and the sound to work on. Your child reads those lines once or twice a day, and the next class starts on firm ground.

A fixed time makes the habit stick. Some families read right after Maghrib. Others read before the school bus. The long, dark Chicago evenings in winter leave plenty of room for a short reading at the table.

When school is out for the summer, you can keep the same class time, move it to the morning or add classes. Give us 1 week's notice to change your plan, and switch back in the fall.
