What Is an Ijazah in Quran Recitation?
An ijazah is a formal licence to recite and teach the Quran. Here is how it works. A qualified teacher who holds an ijazah listens to a student recite the whole Quran. The student recites from memory or from the mushaf (the printed Quran). The teacher checks that every letter, vowel and Tajweed rule is correct. Then the teacher gives the student permission to recite and teach that reading to others. The word ijazah simply means permission.
An ijazah is different from any other certificate because of the sanad. The sanad is the unbroken chain of teachers behind it. Your teacher got permission from their own teacher. That teacher got it from theirs, and so on. The chain goes back to the Companions, who learned straight from the Prophet, peace be upon him. When you finish our online ijazah course, your name joins that chain. The full list of names is written on your certificate.
