Online Madrasa Classes in the UK

What an Online Madrasa in the UK Offers

In the UK, many Muslim children go to madrasa after school. There they learn to read the Quran, learn duas and learn how to pray. Most go to a class at the local mosque or a community centre.

An online madrasa teaches the same subjects in a new setting. There is no building. Your child joins a live video call from home. There is one child and one teacher. The teacher listens to your child for the whole lesson, not just for their turn.

At Salam Campus, each class lasts 30 minutes. Your child keeps the same teacher week after week. That teacher learns which letters your child mixes up and which surahs need more work. The plan then moves at your child's speed, not the speed of a group.

Online and Local Madrasa Side by Side

A local madrasa has real strengths. Children sit with other Muslim children and build friendships. They grow close to the mosque and the people in it. If you have a good one near you, that is worth a lot.

An online madrasa is built in a different way. Below is a fair look at both. Every local madrasa is run in its own way, so where we write 'varies', ask yours.

Subjects: Qaida, Quran, Tajweed, Hifz, Duas, Islamic Studies, Salah

Our teachers cover the subjects a UK madrasa teaches, one step at a time. Your child moves on when they are ready, not when the class does. Many children take 2 subjects in one plan, such as Quran reading and duas. The teacher splits the class time between them.

The subjects are:

  • Noorani Qaida: the Arabic letters, their sounds and how they join. Children as young as 4 can start.
  • Quran reading: reading from the Quran itself, page by page.
  • Tajweed: the rules for saying each letter the right way, taught as they come up.
  • Hifz: learning surahs, or the whole Quran, by heart, with daily review.
  • Duas: short prayers for eating, sleeping, travel and more, learned with their meaning.
  • Islamic studies: faith, good manners and the stories of the Prophets.
  • Salah: wudu (washing before prayer) and the 5 daily prayers, word by word.

Evening Madrasa After School in UK Time

Most families want madrasa between the school run and bedtime. So we set every class on UK time. We follow GMT in winter and BST in summer. When the clocks change in March and October, your class stays at the same UK time.

Weekend classes cost the same as weekday classes. Need to move a class? Tell us before it starts. For half-term and the school holidays, tell us 1 week ahead. You can keep your slot, move it or pause.

Classes run 7 days a week. The times UK families use most are:

  • Weekdays from 4 pm to 8 pm, after school
  • Saturday and Sunday mornings
  • Early mornings and late evenings, for adults

What One Online Madrasa Lesson Looks Like

Your child sits at a laptop, tablet or phone in a quiet corner. The lesson runs on Zoom or Google Meet. The teacher shares the Qaida or Quran page on screen, so you do not need to buy any books.

Each lesson follows a simple pattern, so your child knows what to expect. Young children like this. It helps them settle quickly, even on a tired school night. A 30-minute lesson usually goes like this:

  • A warm hello, then a short check of last time's work
  • New work: a few new letters, a new rule or a few new lines
  • Reading out loud while the teacher listens and corrects each mistake
  • A short dua or a point from Islamic studies, if it is part of your plan
  • A small goal to practise before the next class

Using It Next to Your Local Madrasa

You do not have to choose one or the other. Some families keep a mosque class at the weekend and add an online class in the week. The two fit well together.

In a group, a child may read aloud for only a few minutes. In a private class, all 30 minutes go to the letters, rules or surahs that your child still finds hard. Your child then goes back to the madrasa more sure of their reading.

Here are three ways families mix them:

  • Weekend madrasa for community, plus a weekday online class for reading practice
  • Madrasa for Islamic studies, plus an online class for Tajweed
  • Madrasa as usual, plus online Hifz for a child who is ready to memorise

For Adults and Reverts Too

Madrasa is not only for children. Many adults never had the chance to learn. Some learned as children and then forgot. Others are reverts (people who have accepted Islam) who start from the first letter.

Sitting in a room full of children can feel awkward for an adult. A private online class takes that feeling away. You learn at your own speed and at a time that fits your job. Sisters can ask for a female teacher. Nobody else hears your mistakes, so it is easy to ask questions.

Fees in Pounds

We bill you monthly in pounds. There is no sign-up fee, no contract and nothing to buy. Each class is 30 minutes, live and one-to-one. Brothers and sisters pay a lower fee.

You can pause or stop with 1 week's notice. If you ask within 7 days of paying, we refund any class you have not taken. Our cost page compares online classes with a local madrasa in more detail.

How Parents Follow Progress

Parents often ask what their child actually did in madrasa this week. With online classes, you can see it for yourself. Every lesson leaves a record. Each monthly report also says what the teacher suggests for next month.

You can follow your child in four ways:

  • Sit in on any class, from the next chair.
  • Read the short note after each class: what was taught and what to practise.
  • Read the written report each month.
  • Ask for the progress sheet at any time. It shows the lesson and review done each day.
