Islamic Studies Online for Kids, Taught One-on-One

Most Muslim children in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia go to schools where Islam is never taught. Weekend madrasah (Islamic school) is not always nearby. When it is, the class is often large, with one teacher and a lot of waiting. Salam Campus does it another way. Your child gets one tutor, one-on-one, for 30 minutes at a time. The lessons follow a plan set by age and level. So a 5-year-old and an 11-year-old never get the same book.

Your child can take this course on its own. Or they can take it next to Quran reading or Noorani Qaida (a first book for Arabic letters). The goal stays the same. We want a child who knows what they believe, how to worship and how a Muslim behaves. We also want them to explain each of these in their own words.

What You Will Learn

The programme has graded levels that roughly follow school years. It starts with 2 pre-school levels and goes up to Grade 5. A final level covers the life of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Each level comes back to the main topics and goes a little deeper. Here are the levels:

  • Islamic Knowledge Pre-School 1 and 2: Allah, the Prophet, simple duas and manners
  • Grade 1: the shahadah (statement of faith), wudu (washing for prayer), names of the 5 prayers and short surahs
  • Grade 2: the five pillars, Ramadan and Eid, and the stories of Adam, Nuh and Ibrahim
  • Grade 3: the articles of faith, the angels and the holy books, and Salah (the daily prayer) in detail
  • Grade 4: Zakat (yearly charity), Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), the rightly guided caliphs, more stories of the Prophets
  • Grade 5: halal and haram (allowed and not allowed), a short look at Islamic history, and character and community
  • Glorious Life: a full seerah course on the life of Muhammad, peace be upon him

Online Islamic Classes for Kids by Age and Level

We place each child by age and by what they already know. School grade alone does not decide it. In the free trial, the tutor chats with your child for a few minutes. The tutor asks some simple questions and then suggests a starting level. For example, a 7-year-old may already know the pillars and a few surahs. That child might start at Grade 2. A 9-year-old with no past lessons might start at Grade 1 and move up fast.

Levels do not follow a fixed calendar. When a child finishes a level, they move on. This can take 6 months or a full year.

Brothers and sisters of different ages are taught apart. A lesson for a 5-year-old bores a 10-year-old. A lesson for a 10-year-old loses the younger child. Families with several children often book slots one after another with the same tutor. That way the whole house runs on one timetable.

How Online Classes Work at Salam Campus

Classes run on Zoom or Google Meet. Each class is 30 minutes, on days and times the family picks. The tutor shares slides with pictures, short texts and questions. Your child reads, answers and asks questions too. Younger children get stories, repeating and simple drawing tasks. Older children get short reading passages and talk about them with the tutor.

Parents get a short note after each class. It says what was covered and what to practise. If you tell us first, we move a missed class to a new time. You can ask for a female tutor for your daughter.

After class, we send the slides and any reading to the parent. Your child can look at them again during the week. Here is what you do not need:

  • No printing and no books to buy
  • No email account or login for your child
  • No special software beyond Zoom or Google Meet

Islamic Studies for Kids: What a Lesson Looks Like

Here is a usual Grade 2 lesson, step by step. Your child leaves each class with one thing to remember for next time.

We plan lessons this way on purpose. Children remember what they hear many times and explain back. They do not remember a long talk they heard only once.

  • Start: the tutor asks your child to recite last week's dua (a short prayer to Allah).
  • Next 5 minutes: a quick review of last week's lesson.
  • Main part: the new topic, such as the story of Ibrahim, peace be upon him. The tutor tells it in plain words and asks 2 or 3 questions along the way.
  • Last 10 minutes: a short surah (chapter of the Quran) or dua linked to the topic.

Who This Course Is For

Parents enrol children from 5 years old. Teenagers can take the higher levels and the seerah (life of the Prophet) course. Adults who want the same topics at an adult pace should ask about our general Islamic studies lessons. Those lessons follow a different course plan. This course is a good fit for:

Families where the parents were never taught are welcome too. The tutor explains everything from the start. The tutor does not expect anyone at home to help with the Arabic.

  • Families who want a clear Islamic course plan but have no good local option
  • Children whose local classes are too big to get any attention
  • Children who go to a weekend school but need help to keep up
  • Older children with gaps in the basics who feel shy to ask in a group

Learn Islamic Studies Online for Kids with Quran Lessons

Many families take this course with Noorani Qaida or Quran reading with Tajweed (the rules for reading the Quran correctly). The 2 courses support each other. For example, a child learns Surah al-Fil in Quran class. In the same week, they hear the story of the elephant in Islamic studies. If you enrol in both, the tutor can split one class. Or you can book separate slots on different days. Daily duas are part of every level of Islamic studies. So a separate dua course is optional.

Character and Manners, Not Just Facts

Knowing the names of the five pillars matters less than good manners. It matters how a child greets a guest, speaks to a parent or treats a younger sibling. Every level gives about one third of its time to adab (good manners from the Sunnah). Tutors ask children how they would act in real moments at school or at home. Parents often see the change before the child learns a single new surah.

The manners grow with the child. Each one is linked to a verse or a Hadith (a saying of the Prophet) in simple words. Here is how the topics change:

  • Pre-school levels: saying salam, sharing, and being kind to animals
  • Grades 4 and 5: honesty, keeping promises, respecting neighbours of other faiths, and behaving well online

Kids' Islamic Studies Online: Progress Parents Can See

Each level ends with a short spoken test. The parent can sit in. The tutor writes down the result, and the child moves up. Parents can ask for a progress summary at any time. You can also message the tutor with questions between classes. In the test, the child:

  • Explains the key beliefs
  • Shows wudu and the prayer positions
  • Recites the duas and surahs for that level
  • Answers a few questions on the stories covered

Frequently Asked Questions

We take children from 5 years old. At that age, the pre-school levels teach about Allah, the Prophet, a few duas and basic manners. Children learn through stories and repeating. Some older children have never had lessons. They start at the grade level the tutor suggests after the free trial. This way no child is placed too high or too low.

The course teaches the beliefs and practices shared by mainstream Sunni Islam. Some small details of worship differ between schools, such as where the hands go in Salah. If you tell us your family's way, the tutor teaches that way. If not, the tutor explains that more than one correct way exists. We never bring debates between groups into a child's class.

A little. After most classes, the child has one dua or surah to practise. They also get one question to think about. This takes 5 to 10 minutes. There are no worksheets to print. Parents get a short note after each class so they can help. The tutor checks the homework at the start of the next lesson.

Yes, and many children do. You can book separate 30-minute classes for each. Or you can ask the tutor to split one class between them. Duas and short surahs are already part of every Islamic studies level. So the 2 courses support each other and do not repeat. Fees are per class. So 2 courses at 3 classes a week each are billed as 2 plans.

Our Islamic studies tutors hold formal qualifications in Islamic studies or Arabic. They also have experience teaching children online. We check every tutor on how they speak to young students, not only on what they know. Female tutors are available for daughters. You can ask to change your tutor at any time if the match is not working.

Each level takes about one school year at 3 classes a week. So a child who starts at 5 could finish all levels in their early teens. Most families do not treat it as a race. Children can pause during exams or holidays. They start again where they stopped, and the tutor keeps the progress record.
