Hifz Classes Online in Canada

Hifz Classes Online for Students in Canada

Hifz means learning the whole Quran by heart. It takes years, and it needs 2 things every day. A teacher must hear you recite. And you need a plan to review what you already know, so it does not fade.

For many Canadian families, a daily Hifz class is hard to reach. The nearest Hifz teacher may be far away, or the class may be full. Winter roads make a daily drive even harder. With online Hifz, the class comes to your home, 5 days a week.

Your teacher is a Hafiz or Hafiza, a man or woman who knows the whole Quran by heart. Girls and women can learn with a female teacher. Each class is live, private and set in your local time.

The Daily Routine: New Lesson, Recent Review, Old Review

Every Hifz class has the same 3 parts. Hifz teachers have used this method for a very long time. We simply teach it on a video call. Our blog post on sabaq, sabqi and manzil explains it in more depth.

The mix changes over time. At first, most of the class is the new lesson. As the student learns more, review takes up more of the class. We add no new pages while old ones are weak. It is slower, but what you learn stays.

These are the 3 parts:

  • Sabaq, the new lesson: a few new lines or a page. The student gets it ready at home, then recites it to the teacher.
  • Sabqi, recent review: the lessons from the last 1 or 2 weeks, recited until they are firm.
  • Manzil, old review: a set number of pages from everything learned so far, on a fixed rota.

Hifz Before or After School in Canadian Time

Canada stretches from Newfoundland to British Columbia, across many time zones. We set your class in yours. A 5:00 pm class in Vancouver is 5:00 pm Pacific. It is not a Toronto time that you have to convert.

The Hifz plan is 20 classes a month, 5 a week. Students also need 1 to 2 hours of practice at home each day. The week below splits that time into small parts. Prefer a morning class? Classes run 24 hours a day, so a 7:00 am slot works too.

A sample week for a school-age student, in your local time:

  • Monday to Friday, before school: 20 minutes reading over today's new lesson.
  • Monday to Friday, 5:00 pm: the live 30-minute class with new lesson, recent review and old review.
  • Monday to Friday, after dinner: 30 to 45 minutes of home review, then 10 minutes on tomorrow's lesson.
  • Saturday: no class. A longer home review of the pages from this week.
  • Sunday: no class. Rest, or a light review.

Hifz for Children

Most children start Hifz at about age 7. Reading level matters more than age. A child must read the Quran well, with Tajweed, before they start. If your child is not ready yet, we begin with Noorani Qaida or Quran reading. The free trial includes a reading check, so you will know where to start.

Children do best with short daily classes. A small lesson done well each day beats a big lesson once a week. A young child may learn half a page at a time. The teacher sets each day's amount so the child can succeed.

School breaks are a good time to protect what is learned. Over March Break or the summer, you can keep class going with review only. That way nothing is lost before school starts again.

Hifz for Adults

Adults can memorize the Quran too. You need a fixed daily class, even a short one, and steady review at home. Adults may move more slowly than children. But they often hold on to what they learn, because they understand it.

Adult classes are private and fit around work. Many adults learn at dawn before work, or late at night. Sisters can study with a female teacher. You can also set a smaller goal first, like Juz Amma, the last of the 30 parts of the Quran.

College and university students can fit Hifz around lectures. A class before the first lecture, or a late class after study, keeps the daily rhythm. In exam season, you can switch to review only for a few weeks. Then pick up new lessons again when exams are over.

How Long Hifz Takes

With daily classes and 1 to 2 hours of home practice, a full Hifz takes about 3 years. Some children finish in about 2 and a half years. Adults who also work may take 4 years.

Steady work matters more than speed. A student who rushes and forgets has to learn the same pages again. We agree on goals with you at the start, and we check them each month.

Smaller goals take less time. Here is a rough guide:

  • One surah: a few weeks
  • Juz Amma, the 30th part: 3 to 4 months with 3 classes a week
  • The whole Quran: about 3 years with daily classes

Monthly Reports for Parents

Each month, a senior Hafiz hears the student in a review test. Then you get a written report. It shows how many pages are memorized and how strong the review is.

The teacher also keeps a written record of when each page was last heard. So no page goes without review for long. You can join any class to listen. If you are worried about progress, ask us at any time, and we will talk it through with you.

Hifz Fees in Canadian Dollars

The Hifz plan costs CA$225 a month. You get 20 one-on-one classes, 5 a week, and each class is 30 minutes. That works out to CA$11.25 a class. We bill each month in Canadian dollars.

Want to go slower? The plan with 3 classes a week costs CA$72 a month. Older students and adults can ask for longer classes of 45 or 60 minutes. Ask us for the price.

There is no sign-up fee and no contract. A female teacher costs the same. You can pause or stop with 1 week's notice, and you do not pay for paused weeks. A second or third child pays a lower fee.

Hifz Families in Toronto, Mississauga, Vancouver and Ottawa

Online Hifz works the same in every city and town in Canada. Only the clock changes. Here is how it looks in a few places:

  • Toronto: Eastern Time. A daily class after school fits in before dinner, with no drive across the city.
  • Mississauga: Eastern Time, the same slots as Toronto. Brothers and sisters can book classes back to back.
  • Vancouver: Pacific Time, 3 hours behind Toronto. Your class is booked at a Pacific time that fits the West Coast school day.
  • Ottawa: Eastern Time. On cold, dark winter evenings, a class at home is far easier than a trip out.
  • Calgary and Edmonton are on Mountain Time, Winnipeg is on Central Time and Halifax is on Atlantic Time. We book your class in your own local time.

Getting Ready to Start Hifz

Start with a free trial class. The teacher hears the student read and checks their Tajweed. Then the teacher suggests where to begin and how much to learn each day. We do not ask for a card, and you do not have to sign up after the trial.

A few small steps at home make the first weeks easier:

  • Make sure reading is strong first. The trial will tell you if it is.
  • Choose one fixed time each day for class, and another for home practice.
  • Keep one printed copy of the Quran for every lesson. The same page layout helps the memory.
  • Set up a quiet corner with a stand for the Quran and the screen at eye level.
  • Mark each finished surah or juz with a small reward. It keeps young students keen.

Try a free class. You risk nothing.

It is hard to choose a Quran teacher online. So we made the first step free. Every step after it is easy to undo.

Parents may join any class. You can listen in from the next chair.
