Online Quran Classes in Ottawa

Online Quran Classes for Ottawa and Gatineau Families

Ottawa sits on the Ontario side of the Ottawa River. Gatineau sits on the Quebec side. Many families live in one province and work or study in the other. Two provinces can also mean two school calendars, and a bridge to cross for every class.

Online lessons take the map out of it. Both cities use Eastern time, so one class time works on both sides of the river. A child in Kanata, Barrhaven, Orléans or Gatineau gets the same private lesson from home.

Each lesson is 30 minutes, live and one-to-one. Your child keeps the same tutor from week to week. The tutor knows where your child is up to and what comes next. Nobody waits for a turn, because there is no group.

Eastern Time Planner

Ottawa uses Eastern time: EST in winter and EDT in summer. Our timetable follows your clock. When the clocks change in March and November, your class stays at the same Ottawa time.

Pick 2 to 5 fixed slots a week, and we keep them for you. If your week changes, tell us before the class and we move it. Classes run 7 days a week. Here is how an Ottawa week can look:

  • 6 am to 8 am: adults before work, and early risers
  • Daytime: parents at home, retirees and university students
  • 4 pm to 7 pm: after school, for children
  • 7 pm to 10 pm: teens after homework, and adults after dinner
  • Saturday and Sunday mornings: families who like a weekend routine

Lessons in English, Arabic or Urdu

Ottawa is a bilingual city, and many children go to French school. So we want to be clear. Our tutors teach in English, Arabic or Urdu. We do not teach in French.

For most students this works well. The Quran is read in Arabic, so the reading itself is the same for everyone. The tutor explains each rule in simple English. If your family speaks Arabic or Urdu at home, ask for a tutor who can explain in that language too.

Not sure if English will work for your child? Use the free trial to find out. After 30 minutes you will know whether your child follows the tutor with ease.

Classes for Ottawa Kids

Most children start with Noorani Qaida, a first book for the Arabic letters, their sounds and how they join. Next, they read the Quran with Tajweed, the rules for saying each letter the right way. Some go on to Hifz, learning the Quran by heart.

Parents get a short note after each class and a written report each month. You can sit in at any time. Each 30-minute class has a clear plan:

  • A short check of the last lesson
  • One or two new points
  • Reading out loud with the tutor
  • A small goal to practise before next time

Female Quran Teacher in Ottawa

Many families ask for a female teacher. It may be for a daughter, for a mother who wants to learn with her children, or for a sister who feels more at ease reciting to a woman. Our female tutors have the same training as our male tutors. They teach every course, from the first letters to Hifz.

To ask for one, choose a female tutor on the trial form, and tell us the times you need. The fee is the same as with a male tutor.

Some families book a female tutor for the girls and a male tutor for the boys. Each child has their own class and their own teacher, at times that suit the family.

Adults and Shift Workers

Many people in Ottawa work long days or shifts. A class at a fixed hour across town does not help if you work that evening. Our classes run early and late, so you can learn at 6 am before work or at 10 pm after the children are asleep. When your roster changes, tell us before the class and we move it.

Adults join at every level. Some learn the letters for the first time. Some fix reading habits from childhood. Reverts start from the very beginning, with no pressure. In a private class, nobody else hears your mistakes. Sisters can ask for a female tutor.

Courses Ottawa Students Take

You can take any Salam Campus course from Ottawa. All of them are one-to-one. A student can move from one course to the next with the same tutor and no gap. Many children take 2 subjects in one plan, and the tutor splits the class time.

These are the courses Ottawa families can choose from:

Winter: No Bus, No Drive

Ottawa winters are long and cold. Snow can slow the buses and close roads. On those nights, a trip across town for a Quran class is hard, and a lesson is easily lost. Over a whole winter, that adds up.

An online class does not depend on the weather. If the power and internet are on, the lesson goes ahead. Your child stays warm at home and keeps the habit going all winter. The same is true in the summer holidays, when routines often slip.

On days when school buses are cancelled for snow, children are often home all day. A short Quran class gives that day some shape. Tell us before the class, and we can move it to the morning.

If you do need to miss a class, tell us first. We move it to another time in the same month.

How to Start from Ottawa

Fill in the free trial form. Tell us the student's age, their level and 2 or 3 Eastern time slots that suit you. Say if you want a male or female tutor, and which language you prefer. The trial is a real 30-minute class, and we do not ask for card details. After it, the tutor suggests a course and a weekly plan. You only pay if you choose to go on.
