Why Memorize the Quran?

Memorizing the Quran is called Hifz. It is one of the oldest traditions in Islam. It is also one of the most rewarded.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said the people of the Quran are the closest people to Allah (Ibn Majah). Each Muslim who memorizes even a part of the Quran joins a long chain. This chain has kept the Quran safe for 14 centuries.

A Hafiz is a person who knows the whole Quran by heart. For a family, a child who becomes a Hafiz is a blessing. This blessing reaches many generations.

Hifz also changes how you connect with the Quran. Verses you know by heart come to mind:

The habits you build in Hifz also help at school and at work. These include:

  • In your prayer
  • In hard times
  • In moments when you want to thank Allah
  • Self-control and a daily routine
  • A stronger memory
  • Better focus

Memorize Quran Online with a Dedicated Hifz Teacher

In the past, Hifz meant going to a mosque or madrasa (Islamic school) each day. Most families in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia cannot do this. The nearest qualified Hafiz may be hours away. Or their classes may be full.

Salam Campus brings the same daily routine into your home. You learn with a live teacher on a video call. Your tutor is a Hafiz and is trained to teach Hifz.

Nothing is left to an app or to chance. In each class, your tutor does 4 things:

  • Listens to each verse you recite
  • Fixes any slip in the words or the Tajweed right away
  • Sets the next day's portion based on what you can manage
  • Keeps a log of what you have memorized and when you last reviewed it

Online Quran Memorization for Kids

Most children start Hifz at about age 7. First, they must read the Quran fluently with Tajweed (the rules for saying each sound correctly).

Young children have very strong memories. They can make steady progress without stress if they get 3 things:

Our tutors set portions that push the child a little, but never too much. They celebrate each surah (chapter) the child finishes.

Parents get a note after each daily class. The note shows:

Do you want your child to memorize the whole Quran? Then most families choose daily classes. Do you want a strong partial Hifz, like the last juz (1 of the 30 parts) or some chosen surahs? Then your child can start with 3 classes a week.

  • A small new portion each day
  • Regular review of what they learned before
  • Warm and kind support
  • The new lesson for the day
  • The review the tutor heard
  • Anything that needs extra work

Memorize Quran Online as an Adult

It is never too late to memorize. Adults often memorize more slowly than children. But they understand what they learn much better. A working adult can finish a full Hifz with a fixed daily class.

The key to success has 3 parts. You need a daily portion you can really manage. You need a fixed class time. And you need a tutor who makes sure you keep to the review plan.

Adult Hifz classes are private. You can easily change them to fit your life. You can ask for a male or female tutor. You can study at dawn before work or late at night.

You also choose your own goal. It can be:

  • The whole Quran
  • A few juz
  • The surahs you recite most in prayer

What You Will Learn

The program has 3 daily parts. We teach all 3 in each class. This way, new verses and old verses stay strong together.

  • Sabaq: the new portion you memorize each day and recite to the tutor with full Tajweed
  • Sabqi: the recent lessons from the past 1 or 2 weeks, repeated until they are firm
  • Manzil: a steady review of all you have memorized so far, so you forget nothing
  • Ways to handle similar verses (mutashabihat), which confuse many students
  • Ways to memorize long ayat (verses) in small, easy parts
  • Reciting from memory at the speed of prayer, and at the speed of review
  • Fixing any Tajweed weakness before it gets stuck in your memory
  • Building your own daily routine that goes on after the course ends

How Online Classes Work at Salam Campus

Hifz classes run on Zoom or Google Meet. It is 1 student with 1 tutor, and cameras are on.

At the start, classes are 30 minutes a day. This lasts until the student has memorized the first 2 juz and settled into the routine. Then class time goes up to 60 minutes a day, 5 days a week. This gives enough time for both the new lesson and the review.

Students should also practice at home for 1 to 2 hours a day. This time is split in 2 ways. Part of it is to get the next sabaq ready. The rest is to repeat sabqi and manzil.

Support is open 24 hours a day if you need to move a class. Here is how we track progress:

  • The tutor tracks all 3 parts in a shared record
  • Each month, a senior Hafiz hears a review test
  • Each month, parents or adult students get a report
  • The report shows how many pages are memorized and how strong the review is

The Salam Campus Memorization Method

We follow the classical madrasa method because it works. Each class follows the same 3 steps:

New portions match the student. A young child may learn half a page. A strong adult may learn a full page or more.

We add nothing new while old verses are weak. This is slower than rushing. But it produces a Hafiz who can recite any part of the Quran when asked, even years later.

  • Step 1: the student recites the new portion they got ready the night before. The tutor listens for mistakes in words and Tajweed. The tutor fixes them, and only then marks the portion as memorized.
  • Step 2: sabqi. The student recites the last few lessons together. This is where most weak spots show up, and the tutor fixes them.
  • Step 3: manzil. The student recites a set number of pages from earlier juz.

How Long Does It Take to Memorize the Quran Online?

With daily classes and steady home practice, a full Hifz takes about 3 years. Some children finish in 2 and a half years. Adults who also work may take 4 years.

The time depends much more on daily effort than on natural talent.

Smaller goals take much less time. Here are some examples:

Your tutor gives you a written goal after the first month. This way, you can see the path ahead.

  • The last juz (Juz Amma): 3 to 4 months with 3 classes a week
  • Surah Yaseen: a few weeks
  • Surah Al-Mulk: a few weeks
  • Surah Al-Kahf: a few weeks

Who This Course Is For

This course is for children aged 7 and above. It is also for adults of any age. Students must already read the Quran fluently with Tajweed. They must be ready to study each day.

Is your reading not fluent yet? Then take the Quran Reading with Tajweed course first. If you memorize with weak reading, the mistakes go into your memory. Later, they are hard to remove.

Your free trial tutor will check your reading and give you honest advice.

This course suits:

Keeping Your Hifz After You Finish

Finishing the Quran is a beginning. After that, you have a lifelong duty to keep it in your memory.

Our tutors teach each student a review plan for after they finish. Most often, this means 1 juz a day. That way, you review the whole Quran each month.

Many of our graduates keep taking 2 or 3 review classes a week. This keeps their recitation strong.

Do you want to go further after Hifz? You can study the 10 Qirat (the 10 approved ways of reciting the Quran) with us. Or you can start Tafsir (the meaning and explanation of the Quran).

Frequently Asked Questions

A full Hifz takes about 3 years. This is with daily classes and 1 to 2 hours of home practice. Children sometimes finish faster. Working adults may take a little longer. Smaller goals take much less time. Juz Amma takes 3 to 4 months. A single surah takes a few weeks. Steady effort matters more than speed.

Age 7 is a good time to start, as long as the child reads the Quran fluently with Tajweed. Some children are ready at 6, and others at 8. Reading level matters more than age. Our free trial includes a reading check. So you will know if your child should start Hifz now or build their reading first.

Yes, and many have done it. You need 2 things. First, a fixed daily class, even if it is only 30 minutes. Second, steady review at home. Adults often study at dawn or late in the evening. They move more slowly than children. But they usually remember better, because they understand what they memorize. A partial Hifz is also a worthy goal.

Each class has review of recent lessons (sabqi) and older lessons (manzil). This comes next to the new portion. We set no new lesson while old verses are weak. The tutor keeps a written record of when each page was last heard. So no page goes without review for long.

Yes, all the time. The tutor checks each verse you recite from memory. They check both the words and the Tajweed. A mistake you memorize is a mistake you repeat for life. If a student's reading has gaps, the tutor may spend part of the class on those rules. Then the tutor adds new verses.

Yes. The Hifz plan is USD 175 a month for daily classes, whichever tutor you choose. The plan with 3 classes a week is USD 54 a month. Prices are the same on weekends and weekdays. You can see the full tables in GBP, CAD and AUD on the fees page. There is no registration fee.
