Hifz Planner: How Long Will Your Hifz Take?
Type 3 numbers. See how many pages are left and about how long that is in weeks, months and years. It is free, and nothing is saved.
Hifz means learning the whole Quran by heart. This planner turns your own numbers into a rough time. Fill in the three boxes below. The answer shows under them as you type. The sum runs in your browser, and nothing is saved or sent.
Your Hifz Planner
An estimate, not a promise. Your tutor gives a real estimate after the first 2 or 3 lessons.
How the Sum Works
The common print of the Quran has 604 pages (Quran.com). The Madinah print has 15 lines on a page (Quranic Universal Library). So the whole Quran is 604 × 15 = 9,060 lines. The Quran also has 30 juz (parts), so one juz is about 20 pages.
- 1Pages left = 604 minus the pages you know.
- 2Lines left = pages left × 15.
- 3Lessons = lines left ÷ the new lines in each lesson.
- 4Weeks = lessons ÷ the days a week with a new lesson.
- 5Months = weeks × 12 ÷ 52. Years = weeks ÷ 52. A year has 52 weeks and 12 months.
Two Examples
- You know 0 pages. You learn 15 lines in each lesson, 5 days a week. That is 604 lessons, about 121 weeks, about 28 months, or 2.3 years.
- You know 302 pages, half of the Quran. You learn 15 lines in each lesson, 5 days a week. That is 302 lessons, about 60 weeks, about 14 months, or 1.2 years.
These examples only show the sum. They are not advice on how fast to go.
What the Planner Leaves Out
The planner counts new lessons only. It does not add time for revision, missed days, holidays or slow weeks. Real Hifz takes longer than the sum, because every new page also has to be kept.
That is why revision days matter. In our Hifz course we set no new lesson while old verses are weak. A page you forget has to be learned again, so the time comes back. Our guide to sabaq, sabqi and manzil explains the daily cycle, and the free Hifz revision tracker helps you write it down.
Your Quran may be a different print. A print with another number of lines on a page has another number of pages: one 16-line print in the same Quranic Universal Library list has 548. This planner counts the pages of the 604-page print only.
