What Do Hifz Classes Online in the USA Include?

Hifz means learning the whole Quran by heart. It needs a teacher who hears you every day. Online, you meet that teacher at home, on a video call. There is no daily drive to the masjid and no waitlist for a seat.

Here is what each student gets:

  • 1 student and 1 teacher. No group, so no waiting for a turn.
  • A Hafiz or Hafiza, a man or woman who knows the whole Quran by heart. Every course has male and female teachers.
  • 5 classes a week, 20 a month. Each class is 30 minutes.
  • Every class is recorded, and parents may join any class.

What Happens in Each 30-Minute Hifz Class?

Each class has 3 parts:

  • Sabaq: the student recites the new lines they got ready at home.
  • Sabqi: the student recites the lessons from the last week or two, until they are firm.
  • Manzil: the student recites a set part of the older pages, so nothing fades.

At first, most of the class is the new lesson. Over time, review takes up more of it. The teacher adds no new pages while old ones are weak. See our guide to sabaq, sabqi and manzil.

The tutor's camera is on. Your camera helps on hard letters, because the tutor can see your mouth. Sisters may keep their camera off, and the tutor corrects by ear.

When Can I Take Hifz Classes in My US Time Zone?

Any time that suits you. Classes run 24/7, and we book them on your own clock: Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific. In Alaska or Hawaii? Tell us your city, and we set the time. Read more about our online Quran classes in the USA.

We handle daylight saving for you, so your class stays at the same local time all year. Most of Arizona does not change its clocks. Your slot still stays put.

Pick one fixed slot and keep it every day. These often work well:

How Does Hifz Fit Around the US School Year?

Hifz takes years, so it has to work with school. Here is a simple plan for the year:

  • Fall to spring: keep 5 classes a week. In test weeks, the new lesson gets smaller. Review never stops.
  • Thanksgiving, winter and spring break: keep class going, and use the free days for extra review at home.
  • Summer break: at home, keep moving ahead. Traveling? Switch to review-only classes, or pause with 1 week's notice. You do not pay for paused weeks.
  • Ramadan: we move class times around suhoor (the meal before dawn) and taraweeh (the night prayer).

Who Can Join: Kids, Teens or Adults?

Anyone who reads the Quran well can start Hifz. For the full method and goals, see our Memorize Quran Online course.

  • Kids: most start at about age 7. First, they must read the Quran well with Tajweed. If not, they start with Noorani Qaida or Quran reading. The free trial checks this.
  • Teens: a fixed daily slot keeps Hifz going next to high school.
  • College students and adults: it is never too late. A good first goal is Juz Amma, the last part of the Quran. It takes 3 to 4 months at 3 classes a week.
  • Sisters: girls and women can learn with a female teacher from the first lesson to the last.

Yes. The student takes one 30-minute class a day, often after school. They also practice 1 to 2 hours at home, in short parts, like before school and after dinner. In test weeks, the teacher makes the new lesson smaller, but review goes on.

Around 7 is a good age, but reading matters more than age. A child should read the Quran well with Tajweed first. The free trial includes a reading check. If reading needs work, the teacher starts there.

Yes. Every course has male and female teachers, and the price is the same. A girl or woman can do all of Hifz with a female teacher. The tutor's camera is on. Your camera helps on hard letters, because the tutor can see your mouth. Sisters may keep their camera off, and the tutor corrects by ear.

A full Hifz takes about 3 years, with daily classes and 1 to 2 hours of home practice. Some children finish in about 2 and a half years. Working adults may take about 4. Juz Amma alone takes 3 to 4 months at 3 classes a week.

Yes, when the class is daily and the student practices at home. It uses the classic madrasa method: a new lesson, recent review and old review. The teacher hears only your child for the whole class and fixes each slip at once. Daily effort matters more than talent.
