Class Times in Seoul, Hong Kong and Singapore

South Korea keeps Korea Standard Time (KST), which is UTC+9. Hong Kong and Singapore keep UTC+8. None of the three moves its clocks, so 4:00 pm is the same 4:00 pm in summer and in winter.

One table covers all three. Seoul is 1 hour ahead of Hong Kong and Singapore. Our office in Islamabad (PKT) is 4 hours behind Seoul and 3 hours behind the other two. Its clock never changes either. Classes run 24/7. You pick the hour that suits your home. The Islamabad column only converts clocks, and you always book in your own time zone.

Here are six sample times:

South Korea: Muslim Families and the School Year

Muslim families are a small part of South Korea. The Pew Research Center puts the Muslim share at 0.3% in 2020, in a country of about 52 million people. Its 2010 figure was 0.2%. These are rounded estimates, so use them as a guide only.

Korean schools follow a national rule for the school year, and each school fills in the dates. The rules are in the Enforcement Decree of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The Ministry of Education looks after it. Read its article on days off too. Here is what they say:

How the school year works in South Korea, from the Enforcement Decree
RuleWhat it says
The school yearThe first term starts on 1 March. The second term ends on the last day of February.
The split in the middleEach school picks the day the first term ends. The second term starts the next day.
School daysA school needs at least 190 school days in a year.
Days offThe school sets them before the year starts. They must include Saturdays, public holidays, and summer and winter breaks.

So the exact dates differ from school to school. Ask your school for its calendar and send us the long breaks. Long breaks can fit an extra weekly class.

Classes for Families in Seoul

Salam Campus has no building in Seoul, Busan or Incheon. Your teacher joins you by live video, on a phone, tablet or laptop.

The rules above make Saturday a day off for Korean schools, so Saturday morning can hold a longer class. On school days, share your child's after-school hours, and we plan around them.

Hong Kong: Muslim Families and a Gap in the Numbers

Sources do not agree on how many Muslims live in Hong Kong. The Pew Research Center gives a share of 0.3% for 2020. The Hong Kong government fact sheet on religion, dated January 2026, says there are an estimated 300,000 Muslims. It takes that figure from a Muslim community body. It would be about 4% of the 7.4 million people in the 2021 census. The two numbers are far apart, and we cannot say which one is closer.

The census does not ask about faith, but it counts ethnic groups. Many people in these groups are Muslim, and many are not. So read the table as a hint, not as a count of Muslims. It comes from the 2021 census report on ethnic minorities:

People in Hong Kong by ethnic group, 2021 census (not a count of Muslims)
Ethnic groupPeople in 2021
Indonesian142,065
Indian42,569
Pakistani24,385
Other South Asian, including Bangladeshi5,314

The same report found that 87.6% of ethnic minority residents can read English, and 94.2% of Indian residents.

Hong Kong: School Year and Public Holidays

The Education Bureau sets the holiday rules for schools. Its example calendar for 2026/27 runs from September 2026 to August 2027. Each school makes its own calendar, so check yours. The bureau also lists the public holidays for the school year. Here are some in the months ahead:

Some public holidays in Hong Kong, December 2026 to July 2027, from the Education Bureau
DateWhat it is
25 and 26 December 2026Christmas Day and the day after
6, 8 and 9 February 2027Lunar New Year, days 1, 3 and 4
26, 27 and 29 March 2027Good Friday, the day after, and Easter Monday
5 April 2027Ching Ming Festival
13 May 2027The Birthday of the Buddha
1 July 2027Hong Kong SAR Establishment Day

Ramadan 2027 is expected to start on Monday 8 February, day 3 of Lunar New Year and a public holiday. The example calendar gives schools a break from 4 to 13 February. That may be a good week for a longer class.

Singapore: Muslim Residents and Ngaji Classes

Singapore has a large Muslim community. In the 2020 census, 539,251 residents aged 15 and over said they were Muslim. That is 15.6% of all residents in that age group. The SingStat census table splits them by ethnic group:

Muslim residents of Singapore aged 15 and over by ethnic group, census 2020
Ethnic groupMuslim residentsShare
Malay442,36882.0%
Indian69,96413.0%
Chinese11,9532.2%
Other14,9662.8%

Some families in Singapore search for an ngaji class. Many Malay speakers use the word ngaji for learning to read the Quran. Our classes are in English, Arabic or Urdu, and we do not teach in Malay. The Quran is read in Arabic in every class. So a child from a Malay-speaking home can join, if English works for the family.

Singapore: School Terms and Hari Raya in 2027

The Ministry of Education (MOE) sets one calendar for MOE primary and secondary schools. The 2027 school year starts on Monday 4 January and ends on Friday 19 November. Two public holidays are Muslim festivals, Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Haji. The dates come from the MOE list for 2027. Junior colleges and other schools can differ. Here are the main dates:

Singapore school terms and Muslim festival holidays in 2027, from the MOE
Date in 2027What it is
4 January to 12 MarchTerm 1
Wednesday 10 MarchHari Raya Puasa, a public holiday
22 March to 28 MayTerm 2
Monday 17 MayHari Raya Haji, a public holiday
29 May to 27 JuneMid-year break
28 June to 3 SeptemberTerm 3

The mid-year break lasts about 4 weeks. Tell us a week ahead if your family travels, and you can pause your plan.

Ramadan 2027: Expected Fasting Hours in Seoul, Hong Kong and Singapore

Wego expects Ramadan 2027 to run from Monday 8 February to Monday 8 March. The moon sighting decides the real days and can move them by one day.

The table uses a public prayer-time calculator. It uses the Muslim World League method for Seoul and Hong Kong. That method sets Fajr (dawn) when the sun is 18 degrees below the horizon. For Singapore it uses the local method, with 20 degrees. These are expected times, not final, and a community timetable may differ by a few minutes. Each cell shows Fajr, Maghrib (sunset) and the length of the fast:

Expected fasting times in Seoul, Hong Kong and Singapore on three days of Ramadan 2027
Date in 2027SeoulHong KongSingapore
8 February (day 1)6:01 am to 6:03 pm, 12 h 2 min5:43 am to 6:16 pm, 12 h 33 min5:57 am to 7:21 pm, 13 h 24 min
22 February (day 15)5:47 am to 6:18 pm, 12 h 31 min5:36 am to 6:24 pm, 12 h 48 min5:58 am to 7:21 pm, 13 h 23 min
8 March (day 29)5:28 am to 6:32 pm, 13 h 4 min5:25 am to 6:30 pm, 13 h 5 min5:56 am to 7:18 pm, 13 h 22 min

Singapore sits near the equator, so its fast stays near 13 hours 20 minutes all month. In Seoul it grows by about an hour. Share your Ramadan hours with us early, and your class moves to match.

Living in Japan? It Shares Seoul's Clock

Japan uses UTC+9 as well, just like Seoul, so Seoul's column in the first table fits Japan too. Our Japan page covers its school rules, public holidays and local facts.

Languages, Teachers and Classes for Girls and Ladies

Your teacher can explain in English, Arabic or Urdu, and you can tell us which one on the trial form. There are no Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin, Indonesian or Malay lessons, so please check this before you book.

Children from age 4 are welcome. So are teens, adults and new Muslims. A parent may sit beside the child in any class, and you get a short note after each one. Our kids page says more.
