What Makes a Good Online Quran Teacher

Knowing the Quran is one skill. Teaching it is a second skill. A good online Quran teacher recites correctly. But a good teacher must also do much more. The list below shows what we look for in each teacher.

That is the standard we hire for. Each teacher on this page has a formal qualification. But we chose each one for how they teach, not only for what they know.

  • Hears a mistake right away, even through a laptop mic
  • Explains a Tajweed rule one way to a 7-year-old and another way to a 50-year-old
  • Keeps a child focused through a screen for 30 minutes
  • Writes a clear note for the parent after each class

How We Hire Our Online Quran Teachers

First, people who apply send us their qualifications. We check these with the institute that gave them. Next, those who pass recite for a senior Qari (expert reciter). The Qari also asks them about Tajweed rules. Those who pass then teach 2 sample lessons to real students, 1 child and 1 adult. Our quality team watches these lessons. About 1 person in 5 who applies gets an offer.

New teachers then finish our training on teaching through video calls. It covers screen sharing and how to pace a 30-minute lesson. It shows them how to correct by ear when the camera is off. It also shows them how to write lesson notes that parents can use.

  • Ijazah, or a degree from a recognized Islamic university or Darul Uloom
  • Hafiz of the full Quran, or a Qari with tested Tajweed
  • Fluent English plus Arabic, Urdu or both
  • 2 sample lessons, watched by our team, before any offer
  • Reference and background checks done before the first class

Certified Quran Tutors with Ijazah and Real Experience

Most of our teachers hold an Ijazah. This is a certificate for reciting the Quran. It passes from teacher to student in an unbroken chain back to the Prophet, peace be upon him. Some of our teachers hold Ijazah in more than one Qiraat. Others graduated from Al-Azhar, Darul Uloom or Islamic universities. These are in Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Qualifications are the first step. Experience matters just as much. On average, our tutors have taught online for more than 8 years. The profiles above show years of teaching next to each qualification. So you can judge for yourself.

Male and Female Quran Teachers: You Choose

About half of our teaching team is female. Sisters and girls can ask for a female tutor when they book the trial. Boys under 12 often do better with a female tutor too. Brothers and older boys are matched with male teachers. Male and female teachers have the same qualifications, prices and class times. You can switch at any time as your child grows.

Monthly Quality Reviews of Every Quran Teacher

Hiring well is only the start. Each month, our quality team watches some classes from each teacher. They also read the lesson notes. And they collect ratings from students and parents. Teachers who slip get coaching. Teachers who do not improve leave the team. Each family also gets a monthly progress report based on these reviews. So you see what we see.

Free Teacher Change, Any Time

Even a good teacher can be the wrong fit for a student. Would you or your child prefer someone else? Tell us, and we will find a new tutor, usually within 2 days. There is no charge, and there is no awkward talk. Your learning plan and progress notes move with you. So nothing is lost.

Languages Our Online Quran Teachers Speak

All of our teachers teach in English. Most also teach in Urdu. Some are native Arabic speakers. A few teach in Pashto, Punjabi or Hindi. Does your family speak Urdu at home? Then your child can learn in Urdu, with English support. Are you a revert with no Arabic? An English-speaking tutor will teach you the letters and rules from the start.
