Should your daughter learn the Quran with a male or a female teacher? Families decide in different ways. Some choose a woman, some are happy with a man, and some try a class with each. This guide helps you decide. It does not tell you what to pick, and it gives no religious ruling.
We run an online Quran academy, and we have both male and female teachers. We will not push one choice. Weigh our words with care, and use the questions below on any academy, including ours.
Should My Daughter Learn With a Male or Female Quran Teacher?
It is your family's choice, and both can work. Some families pick a female Quran teacher for girls because their daughter feels more at ease. Others are happy with a male teacher when a parent can sit in. Use the checklist below, then try a free class and see how your daughter feels.
We do not give religious rulings. If you want a ruling on this, ask your local scholar. This guide covers the everyday side. It asks what your daughter wants, what you are comfortable with and how an online class works.
We also do not say that one choice gives better results. What matters most is that your daughter feels at ease, reads aloud and asks questions. The rest of this page helps you check that.
Match Your Situation to a Choice
Find the row that sounds like your family. Each row is a hint, not a rule:
| Your situation | What may help |
|---|---|
| Your daughter says she wants a woman | Listen to her. Ask for a female teacher on the trial form. |
| Your daughter has no preference | Either can work. Try a free class with one, then ask her how it felt. |
| Your family follows advice from a scholar | Ask your scholar first. Then tell us what you decided. We do not give rulings. |
| She is shy and rarely speaks up | Pick the teacher you think will put her at ease. Sit beside her, and change later if it does not fit. |
| She is 4 to 6 years old | A patient teacher and a parent close by matter most. Keep the device in a shared room. |
| She is a teenager | Ask her first. Let her help to choose, and tell her she can ask to change. |
| You have more than one child | Each child has their own class and their own teacher. A brother and sister can have different teachers. |
6 Questions to Ask Before You Choose
Talk these over with your family, and write your answers down. Then you will know what you need from the teacher:
- 1. What does my daughter want? Ask her in a calm way, and listen to the answer.
- 2. What does our family follow? If you take advice from a scholar or imam, ask them. This is their area, not ours.
- 3. How old is she? A young child needs a patient teacher and a parent close by. A teenager may want a say.
- 4. Can I sit in? Parents may join any class at Salam Campus, and you do not need to tell us first. Ask any academy the same question.
- 5. How private is the class? Ours is live and one-on-one. We record classes for quality checks. The recordings are seen only by our quality team and coordinators.
- 6. What if it does not feel right? Before you pay, ask us about a trial with a different teacher. After you enrol, you can ask for a new teacher at any time, at no extra cost.
What Stays the Same With a Male or a Female Teacher
At Salam Campus, the choice changes the person, not the class. These things are the same either way:
- Every course: male and female teachers are available for every course, from Noorani Qaida to Tajweed, Hifz and Islamic studies.
- The fee: a female teacher costs the same as a male teacher.
- The class: it is live and one-on-one on Zoom or Google Meet. A standard class is 30 minutes.
- The check: each tutor is a Hafiz, a Qari or an Alim and passes our 5-step hiring check.
- Parents: you may join any class.
- The free trial: the first class is a free 30-minute trial, and no card is needed.

Camera, Privacy and Recordings
Privacy matters to every parent. Here is how an online class works at Salam Campus:
- The teacher's camera is on.
- A sister may keep her camera off. The teacher then listens and corrects by ear.
- A camera does help with hard letters, because the teacher can see the mouth. Ask us what suits your daughter's age.
- Keep the device in a shared room, such as the living room. Then you can hear the lesson.
- We record classes for quality checks. The recordings are seen only by our quality team and coordinators.

How to Try a Class Without Risk
You do not have to be sure on day one. Here is a simple way to test your choice:
- Step 1: Book the free 30-minute trial. No card is needed. Say on the form if you want a male or a female teacher.
- Step 2: Sit beside your daughter, or listen from the next chair.
- Step 3: Afterwards, ask her three things. Could you hear the teacher? Did you feel at ease? Would you like another class?
- Step 4: Not sure yet? Before you pay, ask us about a trial with a different teacher.
- Step 5: After you enrol, you can ask for a new teacher at any time, at no extra cost.
If you choose a woman, our female Quran teacher page lists the courses she teaches and the fees. If you choose a man, see our page on male Quran teachers.
More Questions to Ask Any Academy
Gender is only one question. Also ask how the teachers are checked, whether you can try a class and how recordings are kept. Ask how a refund works too. Our guide on how to choose an online Quran teacher lists more questions.
