Many adults in Canada want to read the Quran well, but life is full. There is work, family, a long drive and a long winter. This is a plain guide on how to learn Quran in Canada online for adults who work, study or raise a family. It covers class times in every time zone, fees in Canadian dollars and what happens in your first lesson.

Each class at Salam Campus is live, one-on-one and 30 minutes long, with a male or female tutor. If you want the full picture of our Canadian classes first, see our online Quran classes in Canada page.

Why Many Adults in Canada Learn the Quran Online

Canada is huge, and Muslims live all across it. Some live near a busy masjid (mosque) in a big city. Many others live an hour or more from the nearest place that teaches the Quran. Even in a big city, a weekly trip after work can take the whole evening.

Then there is winter. Snow can close roads and slow the buses. A class across town is easy to miss in January. An online class does not depend on the weather. If your power and internet are on, the lesson goes ahead, and you stay warm at home.

There is one more reason, and it is a quiet one. Many adults feel shy about reading like a beginner in front of others. In a private online class, only your teacher hears you. There are no children in the room and no one to compare yourself with.

One Class, Six Time Zones

Canada has 6 time zones, from Newfoundland in the east to British Columbia in the west. Newfoundland is only half an hour ahead of Atlantic time. Some online schools plan their classes around Eastern time or overseas hours. Then a learner in Calgary or Vancouver is left with slots that do not fit.

We book every class in your own local time. The table below takes one class moment, 8:00 pm in Toronto, and shows the local time in each zone. It shows why your zone matters when you pick a school.

You never have to do this sum yourself. Tell us your city, and we set the class by your clock. When the clocks change in March and November, your class stays at the same local time. One note: most of Saskatchewan does not change its clocks. So its gap with Toronto moves by an hour in summer. That is one more reason we book by your city.

Before Work, at Lunch or After the Kids Sleep

Classes run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So you can pick a time that fits your real week, not an ideal one. You keep the same slot each week, and it soon becomes a habit. Here are three common shapes for an adult's week:

Weekend mornings are open too, and they cost the same as weekdays. Classes run on Zoom or Google Meet. The teacher shows the page on screen, so you do not need to print anything. If a meeting or a night shift gets in the way, tell us before the class and we will move it. You do not lose it.

  • Before work: a 6:30 am class, while the house is still quiet.
  • At lunch: a 12:15 pm class in a quiet room or your parked car. A phone and headphones are enough.
  • After the kids sleep: a 9:30 pm class, once the day's jobs are done.

Starting From Zero, Coming Back, or Fixing Your Tajweed

Adults do not all start in the same place. Most fit one of three starting points, and each one leads to a different first course:

Feeling slow is normal, and it is not wasted time. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that a person who finds reading the Quran hard, but keeps at it, gets a double reward (Sahih al-Bukhari 4937, Sahih Muslim 798). The effort itself counts.

Not sure which group you are in? A free trial class will tell you. The tutor listens to you read for a few minutes and suggests where to start.

  • Starting from zero: you cannot read Arabic letters yet. You begin with Noorani Qaida, the first book for letters, vowels and joining. At 3 classes a week, this stage usually takes 3 to 4 months. Reading the Quran slowly with correct letters usually takes 4 to 6 months from zero, and smooth reading with full Tajweed about a year.
  • Coming back: you learned as a child, then stopped for years. Now your reading is slow, or some letters have slipped away. The teacher checks what you still know and starts there, not at page one.
  • Fixing your Tajweed (the rules for saying each letter correctly): you read well enough, but no one taught you the rules. You join Quran Reading with Tajweed. You learn each rule on real verses and read aloud until it becomes a habit.

A Private Class With a Male or Female Teacher

Every adult can choose a male or a female teacher. Our female teachers have the same training as our male teachers, and they teach in every Canadian time zone. They teach every course, from the first letters to Hifz (learning the Quran by heart). A female teacher costs the same.

Sisters can keep the camera off. The teacher corrects you by listening, and the page is shown on screen. You can also take a daytime class while the children are at school. If you ask for a female teacher, we keep that choice for the whole course.

All our teachers teach in English, and most can also explain in Urdu or Arabic. If the first teacher does not feel right, just ask. We set up a trial with a new teacher within a week. You can read more about how we teach adults on our online Quran classes for adults page.

Fees in Canadian Dollars

Fees are billed each month in Canadian dollars. Each plan gives you live, private classes of 30 minutes. Three classes a week is our standard plan. It keeps you moving without filling up your week.

There is no sign-up fee and no contract. Weekend classes and a female teacher cost the same. You pay each month by card, PayPal or bank transfer. You can pause or change your plan with 1 week's notice. If you change your mind within 7 days of paying, we refund every class you have not taken.

Would you like longer classes of 45 or 60 minutes? Ask us for a price. All plans in four currencies are on our fees page.

New Muslims in Canada: A Gentle First Month

If you have recently become Muslim, welcome. You do not need to learn everything at once. Prayer comes first, so a good first month focuses on what you say and do in salah (the daily prayer).

Our prayer lessons follow a calm order. Each Arabic phrase comes in English letters with its meaning. The tutor says it slowly until you can repeat it:

Everything is explained in English, and no question is too basic. If there is a masjid near you, ask about its classes or support for new Muslims too. A teacher at home and a community nearby help each other. For a fuller plan, read how to start learning the Quran as a new Muslim.

  • Weeks 1 and 2: the shahadah (statement of faith), wudu (washing before prayer), the prayer times and Al-Fatihah (the opening chapter of the Quran).
  • Weeks 3 and 4: the full 2-unit Fajr (dawn) prayer, from start to finish.
  • Alongside or after this: the Arabic letters with Noorani Qaida, at a pace you choose.

Memorizing as an Adult in Canada

Adults can memorize the Quran too. You need a short class most days and steady review at home. Adults may move more slowly than children. But they often bring focus and a clear reason to learn. Many adults learn at dawn before work, or late at night.

You do not have to aim for the whole Quran on day one. Many adults start with a smaller goal, like Juz Amma (the last of the Quran's 30 parts). With 3 classes a week, that usually takes 3 to 4 months. A full Hifz with daily classes and 1 to 2 hours of home practice takes about 3 years. Adults who also work may take about 4.

The Hifz plan is CA$225 a month for 20 one-on-one classes, 5 a week. Each class has a new lesson, a review of recent pages and a review of older pages. See Hifz classes online in Canada for the full plan. You can also read how the daily sabaq, sabqi and manzil cycle works.

Learn Quran in Canada Online for Adults: Your First Class

Your first class is a free trial. It is a real 30-minute lesson, not a sales call, and we do not ask for card details. Here is how it goes:

If you are happy, you choose a plan and keep your slot. If the teacher is not the right fit, ask us about a second trial with a different tutor. You do not have to go on.

Whether you live in Halifax, Toronto, Calgary or a small town far from any city, the first step is the same. Book your free trial class and read your first page with a tutor from home, whatever the weather.

  • Send the free trial form with your city, your level and 2 or 3 times that suit you.
  • We reply by WhatsApp or email within 24 hours with a teacher and a time in your local clock.
  • In the class, the tutor asks a few gentle questions and listens to you read. This might be the alphabet or a short surah you know.
  • At the end, you get a short written note. It shows the course we suggest, the classes per week and the fee in CAD.
