After-School Lessons in UK Time (GMT and BST)

Every lesson is booked in UK time. That is GMT in winter and BST in summer. When the clocks go forward in March or back in October, your slot stays the same. A 5 pm Tuesday lesson is still 5 pm on Tuesday.

You might pick a slot between the end of school and teatime, or after tea once homework is done. Early mornings suit families who home-educate. Saturday and Sunday lessons cost the same as weekdays.

Each lesson is 25 or 30 minutes. A few short lessons a week keep a child's reading fresh. That works far better than one long session a week.

Which Course Fits Your Child's Age?

Every child starts at their own level. This list is a rough guide by school year. The tutor confirms the right course in the free first lesson.

  • Reception to Year 2 (about 4 to 7): Noorani Qaida in 25-minute lessons. Letters, sounds and joining, taught with games and lots of praise.
  • Year 3 to Year 7 (about 8 to 12): finish the Qaida, then read the Quran with Tajweed. Short surahs, duas and salah are added along the way.
  • Year 8 to Year 11 (about 13 to 16): fluent reading with full Tajweed, plus Juz Amma (the last part of the Quran) or chosen surahs.
  • From age 7, for strong readers: Hifz (learning the Quran by heart), with a new lesson and revision every day.
  • From age 5: Islamic Studies for Kids, with one level for each school year.

What Age Can My Child Start?

Most children begin between 4 and 6. A child of that age can usually sit for about 20 minutes and follow simple steps. They do not need to know any letters. The Qaida starts from the very first one.

Older children who missed out are welcome too. A Year 6 pupil who cannot read Arabic yet still starts with the Qaida, at their own pace. With 3 lessons a week, most children finish the Qaida in 4 to 6 months.

Are Lessons One-to-One?

Yes. Every lesson is one-to-one, and there are no group calls. The tutor hears each letter your child reads and puts it right straight away. In a group class of 15 or 20 children, each child gets far less time to read.

Your child has the same tutor every lesson. If the tutor is away, a trained cover teacher takes the lesson, so the routine does not break. Brothers and sisters each have their own lesson and their own tutor.

What Happens in a 30-Minute Lesson

Each lesson follows the same simple steps, so children settle in quickly. The tutor shows the Qaida or Quran page on screen and points to each word as your child reads. Younger children get a 25-minute lesson with a game or a sticker chart.

  • A few minutes of revision from the last lesson
  • New work, with each sound corrected as your child reads
  • A quick recap, a dua and some praise to finish
  • A short task to practise for a few minutes each day

Using Online Lessons Next to Madrasa or Weekend School

Many children already go to a madrasa or a weekend mosque class. Online lessons do not have to replace that. A one-to-one lesson works well alongside a group class.

The tutor can spend the whole lesson on the rules or surahs your child finds hard. Tell the tutor what your child covers at madrasa, and the plan can fit around it.

Some families choose online lessons instead, because the local class is full or the journey is too long. Both ways work. What matters is a steady routine each week.

Female Tutors for Girls

You can ask for a female tutor when you book, and we keep that choice for the whole course. Female tutors teach every course, from the Qaida to Hifz. They have the same training as our male tutors.

Many parents ask for a female tutor for younger children. Boys often move to a male tutor as they get older. You can change at any time, at no cost. A female tutor costs the same as a male tutor.

Parents Sit In and Get a Monthly Report

Lessons run on Zoom or Google Meet, on a laptop, tablet or phone. Keep the device in a shared room, and you can listen from the next chair whenever you like.

After every lesson, the tutor writes a short note. It says what was covered and what to practise. Each month, our quality team sends you a written progress report. If anything worries you, we reply within 1 working day.

Before teaching any child, every tutor passes ID and certificate checks, a reading test, a live teaching test and an interview.

Half-Term, Holidays and Ramadan

The UK school year has half-terms, exam weeks and a long summer break. You can reduce, pause or add lessons with 1 week's notice. You keep the same tutor when you come back, and you do not pay for paused weeks.

In the summer holidays, you can move lessons to the morning or add extra ones. In Ramadan, lessons can move to after Fajr (the dawn prayer) or after Taraweeh (the night prayers of Ramadan) if you ask. If something comes up, tell us 1 day before, and we move the lesson for free.
