Many families want to learn Quran in New Jersey online, but the hard part is not the class. It is the week. School, homework, sports, a long commute and weekend Islamic school all fight for the same hours.

This guide is a planner. It gives you a sample Eastern Time week for a family with two children and a parent who commutes. It shows how lessons at home can sit next to weekend school, and how adults and shift workers fit class in. For course details and sample times, see our page on online Quran classes in New Jersey.

Why New Jersey Families Move Quran Lessons Home

For many New Jersey parents, the evening is the tightest part of the day. Pick-up, dinner, homework and bedtime all land in a few hours. Adding a drive to a class across town often means a rushed meal and a tired child.

With online lessons, nobody gets in the car. Class happens at the kitchen table or in a quiet corner of the living room, on whatever screen you have. Each lesson is one teacher and one student, live on video, so the teacher hears every letter your child reads.

There are other gains for a busy family:

  • Lessons can be booked at any hour, day or night, so the week bends around your family, not the other way round.
  • Your child keeps the same teacher, who knows their weak spots.
  • You can sit in on any class, or listen from the next room.
  • You get a short note after each class and a written report each month.

A Sample Week for a Family With Two Children

Here is one way a week could look. Picture a family with a 6-year-old who is starting the Qaida and a 10-year-old who reads the Quran and is working on Tajweed. One parent takes the train to work. The children go to weekend Islamic school on Sunday morning.

All times are Eastern Time. Children aged 4 to 7 have 25-minute lessons. Older children and adults have 30-minute lessons. You can ask for the same teacher for both children, with classes back to back.

  • Monday: 4:00 pm, younger child (25 minutes). 4:30 pm, older child (30 minutes).
  • Tuesday: 6:00 am, parent's class before the train (30 minutes). Children: 10 minutes of practice after school.
  • Wednesday: 4:00 pm, younger child. 4:30 pm, older child.
  • Thursday: 6:00 am, parent's class. Children: 10 minutes of practice.
  • Friday: no classes. A short review at home, or a rest day.
  • Saturday: 10:00 am, younger child. 10:30 am, older child.
  • Sunday: weekend Islamic school in the morning. Five minutes of review at bedtime, then rest.

How to Make the Sample Week Your Own

That week gives each child 3 classes and the parent 2 classes. That is about 75 minutes of class a week for the younger child and 90 minutes for the older one. Change it to suit your home:

  • After-school sports on Mondays? Move those classes to 6:00 pm or 7:00 pm, after dinner. Evenings fill up first, so book them early.
  • A child who is sharpest in the morning? Some kids do well with a short class before breakfast, then the school bus.
  • Weekdays too packed? Put both of a child's classes on Saturday and Sunday. Weekend classes cost the same.
  • Keep the times fixed. The same slot each week turns class into a habit, like school.

Online Lessons Alongside Weekend Islamic School

Many New Jersey children go to weekend Islamic school. That is a real blessing. Children learn with friends, pray together and feel part of their community. Online lessons do not replace that. They add something different.

In a group, a teacher cannot hear every child read every line. In a private class, your child reads out loud for most of the lesson, and each mistake is fixed on the spot. The two fit well together.

A few tips to keep them working as a team:

  • Tell your online teacher what the weekend school covers. They can match the pace, or fill the gaps.
  • Do not double up on the same day. Keep Sunday light, so your child does not burn out.
  • If the weekend school already covers Islamic studies, use the private class for reading and Tajweed only.
  • Share the monthly report with your child. Let them see how far they have come.

Adults: Learning Around the Commute and Shift Work

Parents often put their own learning last. But a child who sees a parent read the Quran learns more than any lecture can teach.

Some parents leave the house before sunrise and get back after dark. Others work nights, or their shifts change from week to week. Classes run 24 hours a day, so you can pick a time that fits your life:

  • Early bird: one lesson at dawn, finished before you leave for the station.
  • Night owl: one lesson late in the evening, once the house is quiet.
  • Changing shifts: tell us when your days off are, and we book your lessons on those days. If a shift moves, tell us before class and we find a new time.
  • Weekend learner: Saturday and Sunday only, with weekdays left free.

Adult Classes in NJ: Private and Calm

Adults can begin at the very first letter, or tidy up reading they half-learned as children. No one else hears your mistakes. Sisters can ask for a female teacher from start to finish, at no extra cost. Our page on online Quran classes for adults has more detail.

Not sure which slot works? Try it first. A free trial class is a real 30-minute lesson at a time you choose, with no card needed.

What Your Child Learns First

Every child starts at their own level. In the trial, the teacher hears your child read, then suggests where to begin. Most children follow this path:

  • Noorani Qaida (the first book for reading Arabic letters): letters, short vowels, joining and simple rules, in 4 stages. Children can start from age 4. At 3 classes a week, most finish in 4 to 6 months.
  • Quran reading with Tajweed (the rules for saying each sound clearly): reading from the mushaf (printed copy of the Quran), with each rule fixed as it comes up. A young child who has just finished the Qaida takes about 1 year.
  • Hifz (learning the Quran by heart): for children aged 7 or older who already read fluently. The whole Quran takes about 3 years of daily classes, plus 1 to 2 hours of home practice a day.
  • Islamic studies: prayer, duas (short prayers), good manners and the stories of the Prophets, if your weekend school does not already cover them.

Our Kids' Classes in Short

Young children have short, lively lessons with lots of repeating and praise. The teacher fixes each mistake gently, then lets the child try again. Read more on our page for online Quran classes for kids.

Fees in US Dollars and the Family Price

Fees are monthly and in US dollars. Every class is private, whichever plan you pick. You pay no joining fee and sign no contract. Card, PayPal and bank transfer all work. Monthly prices:

  • 2 classes a week (8 a month): USD 40.
  • 3 classes a week (12 a month): USD 54.
  • 4 classes a week (16 a month): USD 71.
  • 5 classes a week (20 a month): USD 88.
  • Hifz plan (20 classes a month): USD 175.

How the Family Price Works

Each child has their own private class. A second or third child pays a lower fee, so ask for a family price when you book. Choosing a female teacher or weekend lessons does not change the price.

Plans can bend with your year. Need a break or a different plan? Give us 1 week's notice, and paused weeks are not charged. If you pay and then change your mind within 7 days, we give back the money for any class not yet taken. See all plans on the fees page.

One Teacher for Family in New Jersey and New York

Lots of families are split between the two states. Grandparents in New York may want the same teacher as grandchildren in Jersey City or Paterson.

New Jersey and New York use the same clock, Eastern Time. So one teacher can take a child in Jersey City and a cousin in the Bronx one after the other, with no time math. Each child still has a private class and their own notes. See our page on online Quran classes in New York for that side of the river.

If you move across the river, nothing changes in class. And when daylight saving starts or ends, your lesson stays at the same time on your clock.

  • We confirm the trial time, most often within 24 hours.
  • In the free 30-minute lesson, the teacher listens to each learner read and answers your questions.
  • After the trial, we send a short note with the course and plan we suggest. You decide. You pay nothing unless you go on.
